About The Artist:Â An orphan from a young age, Johann Herman Carmiencke was sponsored by a teacher who recognized his talent from a young age. He studied art in Dresden and Copenhagen where he eventually became court painter to the king of Denmark. He studied all over Europe but eventually moved with his family to New York where he remained and continued to paint inspired by places like the Hudson River and the Catskill mountains.
